Moch Ali is the payzant distinguished academician of Indonesian Islamic Philology at Faculty of Humanities, Airlangga University in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. A graduate of Airlangga University, he received his M.A.Min. in Biblical and Semitic Studies from Baptist Theological Seminary in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. As a well-known Semitic scholar and an expert researcher of the Islamic manuscripts in East Java and Indonesian Jewish Heritage in Southeast Asia, he is then known by the foreign scholars as Ali de Jode van Nederlansch Indie. He is also an elected scholar of the prestigious foreign organization of Islam ‘Bright Future Institute’ (BFI) in Qum and Tehran, the famous academic cities in Iran. This institute is a center of messianic policy, an academic organization to dedicate the researches on Mahdism. After teaching 12 years at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and at the Faculty of Humanities, Airlangga University, and supporting many religious academic activities on Interfaith Dialogue: Pluralism and Multiculturalism, since 2010, Moch Ali founded The Center of Messianic Studies, to dedicate the main studies on the Dead Sea Scrolls, Judaeo-Christian Studies, and the Pesantren Manuscripts Studies.

Author of more than eight articles in the accredited national and international journals, and six articles of the published books, Moch Ali has given the lectures at the Faculty of Letters, Petra Christian University and Faculty of Theology, Baptist University in Surabaya, East Java; Faculty of Theology, Sanata Dharma University and ICRS (Institute of Cultural and Religious Studies), Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta and the pesantrens. He also regularly lectures and gives talks at popular conferences on the Dead Sea Scrolls, Christology, Bible Studies, Comparative Religions, Indonesian Islamic Philology, Indonesian Jewish Heritage Studies and Southeast Asian Jewish Cultural Studies. To support his competence in the researches and lectures of the subjects, Moch Ali has a good command of three languages: English, Arabic and Hebrew.

In 1991, I entered the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Airlangga University as one of state universities in Indonesia where I studied Indonesian Studies, specializing in the Philology. In 1996, I graduated in Indonesian Studies with the mark of very good. The topic of my thesis was The Hikayat Hasan Husain: A Study of Philology. In 1998, I taught at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Airlangga University and since 2000 I taught at the Faculty of Humanities, Airlangga University specializing in Indonesian Islamic Philology, Manuscripts Conservation and Near Eastern Literary Writings in Translation. After teaching three years at that University, in 2001 I then continued to study at the Baptist Theological Seminary, Semarang, Indonesia in the program of Semitic and Biblical Studies, specializing in the Greek and Hebrew rabbinic literary writings. In 2003, I received my M.A. degree with the mark of very good from that seminary in that academic area, the topic of my thesis was The Syro-Aramaic Peshitta Influence on the Hebraic Messiah in the Quran. Since 2002 I was being a member of the prestigious professional organization – MANASSA (Masyarakat Pernaskahan Nusantara/ the Island Southeast Asian Philological Society), an academic society which dedicated to research the Indonesian manuscripts. Now, I am also a research fellow on PUSETA (Pusat Studi Etnik dan Agama – Centre of Ethnic and Religious Studies) at Nahdhatul ‘Ulama Organization (NU) in East Java, the greatest social organization of Islam in Indonesia. The mission of this centre is to develop Interfaith Dialogue and Multiculturalism Studies.
